"Liberal" Party moderate and Deputy Opposition Leader Julie Bishop says Australian school children should be forced by the government, to learn Asian languages. She has put forth a proposal to that affect, that she hopes will be adopted as Coalition policy. Under the Australian Constitution the federal government has no authority over education or schooling. The Consitution delegated specific powers to the federal government, with all remaining powers remaining residual in the states. The words "education" or "school" are not even mentioned in the Australian Constitution. Despite the fact that this policy is neither liberal, nor conservative it is still being pushed for at the highest levels of the Liberal Party. This should tell you something about the legitimacy of the Liberal Party in their claims to be the party of conservative values. This move to force Australian school children to learn languages like Indonesian, Vietnamese, Chinese etc is consistent with what are evidently bipartisan efforts to gradually move Australian into common economic, currency and eventually political union with Asia, along the same lines as the European Union and the proto-North American Union (NAFTA). |

Agreed
I happened to be watching the very show, Agenda, when she said this. I gasped and upon the exhale realised there is no end to the abuse of force within this left right paradigm. I take no great solace in the fact that it is the least of our worries right now.
It is sickening that someone
It is sickening that someone claiming to be "liberal" can put forth such a proposal with a straight face.
