In a blow to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's perceived anti-war reputation, mainstream news sources are reporting that Rudd and his clique are planning to send more Australian troops into the Afghanistan quagmire.

According to unamed sources in the United States and Australia, the options being considered range "from a small boost to training Afghani soldiers, through to a battalion-sized battle group of 1000 soldiers plus armoured vehicles, Black Hawk helicopters and possibly even Abrams main battle tanks."

Although no official request has been made to Australia by the United States, insiders expect a formal request to come from the United States before President Obama meets with Rudd on the 24th of March.

The Afghanistan war has, thus far, claimed the lives of 8 Australians. Mr Rudd continues to justify Australian involvement in the war, citing the events of the 11th of September 2001.
