Evil always wins through the strength of its splendid dupes. - G. K. Chesterton
The Australian reports that former foreign minister Gareth Evans as has been ranked number 52 on Foreign Policy magazine's annual Top 100 Global Thinkers list. The magazine recognises Professor Evans for his role in developing the so-called Responsibility to Protect Principle, which contends that every country has the responsibility to protect its citizens from mass killings. Liberty Australia director Anthony Coralluzzo suggests that Evans should not have received the honour: "Evans enthusiastically cheered western military intervention in Libya, which has taken the lives of thousands of innocent civillians". "How can someone who supports such a disastrous policy be a great thinker?" Instead, Coralluzzo suggests, intellectuals who focus on the millions killed by socialist economic and environmental policies should be rewarded with recognition.
