• The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule. – H.L. Mencken

New Government Department = More Problems

One of the failures of socialism is the automatic assumption that any new problem can be solved by appointing a new centralised committee, commission, department or whatever other name you can think of for a group of coercive central planners.

To go along with her global warming assembly, PM Gillard has created a new Department to deal with the problems in rural Australia. She has appointed Simon Crean, probably because he's one of the more blokey/country sounding senior MP's on Labor side. However, i'm afraid this is not going to help him achieve success in his new portfolio. The philosophy that you can solve a problem by appointing more bureaucrats was demolished with the fall of the Soviet Union.
