"Job Creation" is not the problem

It is a source of irritation to me that politicians constantly talk about "job creation". Job creation alone should not be the goal. If it were, then we could create millions of jobs in Australia by pulling down the telephone lines and having runners and horse-back communication, as they did many hundreds of years ago.

The ultimate goal is improving the standard of living (and freedom, of course). Hence, complaints from United States' President Barack Obama, about the job-destroying characteristics of technologies like ATMs, are not legitimate, and are a sign of economic illiteracy.

Indeed, the automation of the ATM means that resources are freed-up to further improve living standards via other projects. That is how an economy grows.
