BER Rorts = Ideological failure, not implementation failure

The federal government program hilariously known as 'Building the Education Revolution', has indeed produced a revolution. Not in education, but in wasted tax-payer money. School buildings have been overpriced by millions compared to market prices, and tax-payer's money has simply been redistributed to saavy builders and government bureacrats. Talkback radio is asking "Why can't the government get market prices for these buildings?". Many are saying that it is due to Labor's failed implementation of the program. This is wrong. The failure is one of socialism as an ideology. It doesn't matter what party is trying engage in so-called 'public works projects', tax-payer's money will always be wasted because the people spending the money, did not earn the money. We'd have a stronger economy if you kept your money and spent it yourself. Sending it to Canberra is not only futile, it is destructive. |
